He has been a strong supporter of community-led conservation efforts, such as the Sabarimala trail clean-up project in the 90s. He was also actively involved in initiatives like the Periyar trail sandalwood protection project, where he supported efforts to empower former poachers to become forest protectors, showcasing his commitment to fostering sustainable practices and creating a positive impact on local communities.
